Conor McGregor screamed four words whilst being choked out by Khabib at UFC 229

It has been over 18 months since two giants of MMA Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor took centre stage at UFC 229, resulting in a remarkable win for the Russian champion.

The UFC lightweight champion made his arch-rival McGregor tap out in the fourth round of the showdown back in 2018.

The showcase event in Las Vegas was the headline news across all of combat sport, starting from the build-up to the heated press conferences and controversies that followed during the aftermath of the contest.

A lot has happened since that fight, including McGregor’s return to the Octagon, which happened in January as he saw off Donald Cerrone inside 40 seconds.

However, speaking in an interview before the Irishman’s return, Khabib was convinced that he wouldn’t want a rematch.

The 31-year-old said: “Honestly I don’t think he wants that fight. How is that so? I beat him up for four rounds.

“I beat him and choked him and he tapped.

It was a sign he didn’t want to be there, ‘let me go please’ and all that. And how he wants the rematch.

A lot of UFC fans have discussed that night ever since, with plenty claiming it was the night McGregor was humbled, and that was even more relevant during his recent press conferences with ‘Cowboy’.

A lot of UFC fans were quick to state how humble McGregor seemed during the press conferences, and also how humble he was post-fight.

Of course, McGregor got in and out inside a round, with Cerrone recently admitting he wasn’t up for the fight, but all eyes are now on what will be next for the Irishman.

Sadly, due to the coronavirus pandemic, no one truly knows what is next, but a second fight between Khabib and McGregor would certainly be something UFC fans are interested in.

It seems like Dana White and co. will need to sort out Tony Ferguson’s future first, as well as Khabib’s, before we can properly discuss what’s next for these two giants of the sport.
