The Rock, otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson, is most commonly referred to as “the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.”

The ‘Great One’ has blazed a trail for future WWE superstars, starring in nearly 40 movies and has become a household name in both the wrestling and the film industry.

Since his move to Hollywood, wrestlers such as Batista, who starred in “Guardian’s of the Galaxy,” and John Cena, “Bumblebee”, have followed his lead.

He became the first ever third generation wrestling superstar, making his debut as Rocky Maivia at Survivor Series in 1996.

The eight-time world champion went on to have fierce rivalries with other iconic superstars, none more so than ‘The Rattlesnake’ Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The Austin/Rock rivalry helped define The ‘Attitude Era’ in the WWE and the pair went on to headline three WrestleMania’s, XV, X-Seven and XXVII.

The family legacy of The Rock began in the South Pacific Island of Samoa where the Rock’s grandfather, Peter Maivia, known in the ring as - High Chief Peter Maivia, was born in the 1930s.

The Rock’s father was Rocky Johnson, who was part of The Soul Patrol tag team that included American wrestler Tony Atlas. Together, they became the first ever African-American tag team to win the World Tag Team titles. After over a decade of wrestling, Johnson would play the vital role of helping train his son Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Before there was the Rock, however, Dwayne was an American Footballer who played for the Miami Hurricanes. He was part of the side that won the 1991 NCAA National Championship, going unbeaten throughout the season. Standing at 6ft 4 and weighing 230 pounds, he proved to be a formidable asset to the team.

The following season, due to the subsequent arrival of Warren Sapp in 1992, Dwayne had less of an influence on the team and his starts were reduced.

The next season he was not drafted by any team in the NFL and following a brief stint in Canadian football, he asked his father Rocky Johnson to train him to become a professional WWE wrestler.

The Rock said: “I remember watching my dad…I wanted to have that same type of as he would say, razzlematazz.”

Aside from the many accolades, The Rock was also widely regarded as one of the best trash-talkers in WWE history, using catchphrases such as “Just bring it!” and, when he would ask a superstar what they think about something, then interrupt them in the middle of their reply to say “It doesn’t matter what you think!”

The Rock also had relatives who have since gone on to make an impact in the wrestling business, his cousin, female superstar Nia Jax, and the ‘Big Dog’ Roman Reigns, the latter starred in a film alongside his cousin called ‘Hobbs and Shaw’, the latest feature in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Dwayne has also appeared in films such as The Scorpion King and Jumanji.

A common trend that came across during his wrestling days as well as his diets was his love of a variety of pies – including apple pie. His most popular cheat meals include four double dough pizzas and 12 pancakes.

His most recent cheat meal last Sunday was three whole pints of ice cream and pancakes smothered in peanut butter and syrup.

Below are just a handful of photos from some of his previous cheat meals.

Dwayne is next due to appear in the upcoming Jumanji sequel ‘The Next Level’ that is released on December 11, 2019.
