Jose Mourinho has only taken over a club midway through a season on one previous occasion - and that was with FC Porto back in 2002.

Since then, the revered Portuguese coach has always started new jobs in the summer, allowing him a proper pre-season to get his players prepared and ready for the upcoming campaign.

But Mourinho knew he couldn’t afford to miss the opportunity to return to management with Tottenham, who clearly believe the 56-year-old is still one of the world’s best coaches.

Mourinho takes charge of Spurs for the first time on Saturday lunchtime.

West Ham might be struggling in the Premier League table but this will be no walk in the part for Spurs, who have only picked up one more point than the Hammers so far this season.

Ahead of Mourinho’s first game back in management since being sacked by Manchester United last December, various Premier League managers have had their say about ‘The Special One’s’ dramatic return.

Jurgen Klopp

"Welcome back, Jose!” the Liverpool boss said. “Obviously it's nice to have him back.

“He was desperate, you could see in the time when he was not in [work].

“And Jose is highly motivated, so that will be interesting as well.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

“It’s good to have Jose back, definitely. Especially for you guys, maybe for me because you can talk and write about everything else.

“You like Jose coming back and it’s going to be a spectacle and a circus.”

Frank Lampard

“History and results speak for themselves. The trophies and titles that he’s managed to win over at his clubs that he’s worked at… things like that in sport are not surprised, they’re because of hard work and what you put in, and he’s done that consistently.

“People will hold up his record and expect big things from him.”

Lampard was also asked if he could see himself following in Mourinho’s footsteps one day by managing both Chelsea and Tottenham.

His answer was emphatic.

“I can firmly say no - and you can replay that again in 10 years. It wouldn’t happen.”

Pep Guardiola

“Welcome back. He’s an incredible manager, I’m pretty sure he will do a good job.”

Unai Emery

“I think it’s a surprise how it finished with Pochettino,” the under-fire Arsenal coach said. “I don’t know exactly why and how it’s going to change their performance.

“[Jose] is a very good coach, his career is strong with titles and experience and I think also Pochettino working in Tottenham was amazing.”

Mourinho is the name on everyone’s lips right now.

It seems he’s already in the heads of a few Premier League managers and we can’t wait to see what the Portuguese coach has up his sleeve for the coming weeks and months.

There will be fireworks.
