Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed a storming start to life in Italy.

The big Belgian has made just 15 appearances for Inter Milan but has already found the back of the net nine times.

Lukaku swapped Manchester United for Inter in the summer for £74 million and hasn't looked back.

However, despite the indifference in the stands, Ole Gunnar Solkjaer's decision to sell the striker and subsequently not replace him certainly raised a few eyebrows.

With United frightfully short of firepower going forward at times this season, many have been looking longingly towards Milan, rueing the clubs decision to let Lukaku go.

For Lukaku though, it looks to have been a fantastic decision after outlining in an interview with Corriere Delo Sport that he knew his time at United was over when Solskjaer began planning to deploy him as a winger.

"Once I learned that [Ole Gunnar] Solsjkaer planned to put me on the wing, then I knew my time at Manchester United was over," Lukaku told Corriere Dello Sport.

"It would be nice to be Capocannoniere (Serie A 's top goalscorer), but I'm not the type of player who says I want this or that individual title.

"I think of the team first. My biggest motivation is helping the team, and to help the team we score goals.

How bizarre - imagine watching a man the size of Lukaku bombing down the wing at Old Trafford.

No wonder he knew it was time to go.

After an incredible start to life at the helm of United, Solskjaer's side has struggled for any kind of productive consistency for months - just when they look to have turned a corner, they slump to yet another disappointing defeat.

There is no questioning that having Lukaku on the books this season would have been a big help but Solskjaer simply doesn't have time to cry over spilt milk.

Yes, letting Lukaku was an error in judgement, but he certainly has enough talent at his disposal to get better results out of this squad.

Whether you like it or not, Ole's at the wheel, and now he has to prove it.
