Jose Mourinho has made the perfect start to life as Tottenham Hotspur manager, winning 3-2 at West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.Having been appointed on Wednesday morning after Mauricio Pochettino's sacking, the Portuguese made a massive first impression by securing Spurs' first Premier League away since January. What's more, three points at the London Stadium meant that Spurs instantly leapt up to fifth place and above their rivals Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand. And Mourinho's reign nearly got off to an ideal start after just two minutes when Harry Kane found the net, only to see his strike correctly chalked off by the linesman's flag.Spurs' top-scorer threatened behind the defence shortly after, only to find himself offside again, and the visitors ruffled the feathers of number two goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez from set pieces.

Son opens the scoring

Nevertheless, Lukasz Fabianski's deputy was up to the challenge when a deflected shot from Son Heung-min came hurtling on target and prompted an animated reaction from Mourinho.

But the South Korean made no mistake in the 36th minute, scoring the first goal of the new era at Tottenham with a lashed left-footed strike that passed too easily through Roberto's midriff.

Once the first goal arrived, the second swiftly came in tandem.

Moura scores from Alli's flick

Dele Alli produced a stunning piece of skill while falling off the pitch, somehow finding Son with a back-heel and creating a move that finished with Lucas Moura sliding home for 2-0.

In fact, Alli impressing was something of a common theme throughout the first half and it can't be a coincidence that his elevated performance came after Mourinho's 'brother' conversation.

Kane continues London derby streak

And it wouldn't be a Tottenham victory without Kane writing his name on the scoresheet.

Mere seconds after Moura had bottled a clear one-on-one opportunity, the Englishman continued his superb record in London derbies by heading home from Serge Aurier's pinpoint cross.

Kane, who has 36 goals against capital clubs, looked to have injured his ankle shortly afterwards, but was causing havoc again shortly after and only Issa Diop seemed capable of stopping him.

West Ham get one back

However, there wasn't to be a clean sheet on Mourinho's Premier League return as Michail Antonio ensured there was a sting in the tail with a consolation goal for the Hammers.

Turning Toby Alderweireld with a delicious dummy, the Englishman - one of West Ham's better players on the day - fired past Paulo Gazzaniga as he fell backwards.

The Hammers spark late nerves

And from then on, you got the impression that Tottenham were reverting to type and started to buckle under pressure as West Ham created more and more chances.

However, their second goal came far too late. Antonio nearly forced an own goal with a brilliant run own the right wing, before Angelo Ogbonna enjoyed more success from a corner.

But as much as West Ham piled on the pressure in the closing seconds, there wasn't to be a dramatic collapse on Mourinho's curtain-raiser. One game, one win and three points.

It's still early days and most coaches could have inspired a new-manager bounce, but you get the feeling that Mourinho is finally evolving and gunning for something special at Spurs.
