VAR came to Liverpool's aid against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. The Reds were far from their best in the first half at Selhurst Park. And it appeared they would go into the break with a goal deficit after James Tomkins headed home.Liverpool players immediately protested as Dejan Lovren went down under contact in the box. And, after VAR reviewed the incident, the goal was ruled out.

And watch the VAR call below...

That does some soft indeed. You could probably argue either way whether the goal should have stood or not.

The ball was probably going over Lovren's head, anyway, so it seems very silly of Jordan Ayew to put his hands on the Croatian's back.

One man that wasn't happy was Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson.

The former Arsenal player was watching the game as the decision was made.

"Someone's gone over, oh there's a shove, I don't know, Lovren gets shoved by Ayew, Lovren gets pushed by Ayew, would he have headed it out? I don't know," he said, per football.london.

"Me I would still give it. He's disallowed it, I can't watch, this is ridiculous.

"Seriously he's nowhere near the ball, he can't get that! Look at that.

"Shall we give Liverpool the title now?"

Others on Twitter weren't happy, either, as LiVARpool soon trended on Twitter after the call.
