Arsenal booed by their own fans after drawing 2-2 at home to Southampton

Unai Emery's Arsenal nightmare shows no signs of stopping.

The Gunners have been struggling recently and their poor form continued with a home draw against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal have been leaking goals left, right and centre this year and Emery decided to counter that by fielding five defenders against the Saints.

But that did not seem to pay off as Danny Ings netted just eight minutes into the game.

Arsenal were caught napping when Southampton took a free-kick.

Ings had a clear run on goal and made no mistake as he struck past Bernd Leno.

Arsenal managed to hit back shortly after though, with Alexandre Lacazette restoring parity just before the 20 minute mark.

Emery sent on Nicolas Pepe at half-time as he looked to win all three points.

And the Ivorian forward went close to giving his side the lead, only to see his volley crash off the bar.

But Arsenal soon found themselves behind once again.

Kieran Tierney gave away a penalty when he hauled down Ings inside the box.

Leno managed to save James Ward-Prowse's penalty, but the rebound was kind for the Englishman and he made no mistake at the second time of asking.

Ward-Prowse then did Cristiano Ronaldo's celebration, which may have annoyed a Arsenal fan or two...

It could have actually been even worse for Arsenal, with Southampton missing a number of late guilt-edge chances.

But, incredibly, they managed to salvage a point as Lacazette netted with virtually the last kick of the game.

That did not prevent Arsenal fans booing their side as the final whistle sounded.

Remember, this is a Southampton side that had been beaten 9-0 by Leicester just a few weeks before.

Arsenal should have comfortably beaten a team that was 19th in the league and the fans' reaction was completely justified.

They are now in seventh, currently seven points off the top four.

The Gunners could drop as low as ninth by the end of the weekend.

Emery may find himself looking for a new job very soon...
