Ever since he made his first appearance on WWE Backstage, fans have been wondering if CM Punk will take the next step and return to a WWE ring.

Some fans even thought that Punk would be the final member of Team Ciampa for the WarGames match between Team Ciampa and The Undisputed ERA at NXT TakeOver: WarGames since the event was taking place in his hometown of Chicago.

However, the final member was later revealed to be Kevin Owens, and the show concluded without any appearance from The Voice of the Voiceless.

During a media call after WarGames, Triple H was asked about Punk and whether or not he had spoken to him since he joined the WWE Backstage team as an analyst.

The Game revealed he hasn't spoken to Punk since he's signed with Fox, but he added there is a chance things could develop between Punk and WWE in the future.

He said, via Wrestling Inc: "I have not spoken to him. To be honest, we have not had that conversation. I know he's working for FOX and it's a bit of an arm's length from us.

"All of this stuff is baby steps, when people want something so bad, it's like they're saying, 'So you're saying there's a chance.' That's the moment of time that we're in."

Triple H mentioned as well how they did their best throughout the show to make sure they didn't mislead fans into thinking Punk was making an appearance.

The Game said: "There was a moment where Sam Roberts had said in the Kickoff show a couple of times or was going to say, 'The person is in Chicago.'

"I was like, just don't say the person and 'in Chicago' in the same sentence because I feel like you're setting that up. 'The person is here' is fine. I understand it and I get it, it is what it is at this point in time."

He added as well that while there is always a possibility that they might work together in the future, it's still a long way away.

He said: "Be happy that he's on WWE Backstage and doing something with the business again. The rest of it, I've said it a million times, never say never. But that's a long, long way.

"I know when you say that, people say, 'they're working us!' Because there's nothing that you can say that will make people think otherwise, it is what it is."

Until Punk competes in a WWE ring again, the talk of him returning for another match will continue.
