Chris Smalling has more goals and assists than Jesse Lingard this season.

Smalling is a centre-back. Lingard is an attacker.

The 30-year-old Smalling scored his second goal for AS Roma in their 3-0 win against Brescia on Sunday afternoon.

He also recorded an assist as I Giallorossi moved into the Serie A top four.

Lingard’s stats for Manchester United this season? Zero goals, one assists. That assist came against Rochdale in the EFL Cup.

The 26-year-old hasn’t been involved in a single Premier League goal in 2019, which is a shocking statistic.

His form is the reason why he’s started just four league games in the 2019/20 season.

Instead, Daniel James is starting and 18-year-old academy talent Mason Greenwood is getting more minutes.

Smalling, meanwhile, is living his best life out in Italy.

He’s playing regularly under manager Paulo Fonseca, whose side are fourth in Serie A.

The United loanee has earned the nickname ‘Smalldini’ for his efforts in a Roma shirt.

When you look at the error Phil Jones made on Sunday against Sheffield United, it’s crazy to think that Man United decided to offload Smalling but keep Jones.

It remains to be seen whether Smalling has a career at Old Trafford.

His Man United contract expires in the summer and given his performances this season, Roma may seek to make his temporary stay a permanent one.

Smalling recently admitted he misses United though, telling Football Italia: “I do because I was there for so many years and I was used to be being part of the furniture there.”

But the centre-back insists he is enjoying his time at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I am enjoying my new chapter, and hopefully I can keep affecting performances on the pitch and we can have a successful season,” he added.

“But right now I’m really enjoying being in Italy."
