Arsenal fans have been calling for Unai Emery’s departure for many weeks now.

And it seems as though the players have turned on the Spaniard, too.

The Telegraph are reporting that Arsenal’s players have lost faith in Emery and do not believe that he is the man to save their season.

Saturday’s draw to relegation-threatened Southampton extends the Gunners’ winless run in all competitions to six matches.

They are eighth in the Premier League table and are in serious danger of missing out on the top four.

The Telegraph’s report claims there is a growing feeling in the squad that Emery should be replaced in an attempt to get Arsenal back on track.

Players are confused by Emery’s selections, tactics and instructions, and believe they are lacking an identity under the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss.

A source told Telegraph Sport: “The problem is the coach. He still makes bad decisions and changes his tactics.

“There is no identity to the team and the players do not see any progress.

“The recent performances and results have had a big impact on the belief of the squad.

“Does anybody still think they can qualify for the Champions League under the coach? I don’t think so.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent appointment of Jose Mourinho has also sparked a reaction at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal players now believe that similarly decisive action is required to salvage their campaign.

“Mourinho taking over at Tottenham has only made it worse,” a source said.

“He may not be to everyone’s liking, but he is a winner and Spurs have made it clear they want to win.

“Unai Emery is not seen as a coach on the same level as Guardiola, Klopp or even Mourinho.

“Frank Lampard has already built an identity at Chelsea and Brendan Rodgers is doing very well at Leicester.

“All of this puts more pressure on him.”

In the event that Emery is sacked, the most likely reaction is for assistant first-team coach Freddie Ljungberg to become interim boss until the summer.

However, possible candidates like Brendan Rodgers, Mikel Arteta and Julian Nagelsmann would need a lot of convincing if Arsenal haven’t qualified for Europe.
