Manchester United and Liverpool is the biggest rivalry in English football.

Not only are the two clubs separated by just 35 miles but they’re also the two most successful clubs in the country.

It was Sir Alex Ferguson’s aim to ‘knock Liverpool off their f**ing perch’ during his time at Old Trafford - and he did just that.

By leading the club to 13 Premier League titles, Ferguson ensured the Red Devils reached 20 league titles - two more than Liverpool’s tally.

However, the tables have turned once again it seems.

United may have won 20 league titles but, in November, they currently sit 20 points behind Liverpool. And it’s a points deficit that will only increase during the rest of the campaign you’d imagine.

Are Liverpool back on their perch?

Well, the Reds will have to win their first ever Premier League title to claim that but they’re certainly heading in the right direction.

Jurgen Klopp’s side sit eight points clear of Leicester in second and nine ahead of Manchester City.

In fact, the only game in which Liverpool have dropped points this season came at Old Trafford against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

The league leaders could only draw 1-1 last month. However, the fact that the visitors were disappointed with the result goes a long to show the state of the two clubs at the moment.

This week, Liverpool will prepare for a big Champions League night at Anfield against Napoli as they attempt to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition they won last year.

Meanwhile, United will travel to Kazakhstan to face Astana in the Europa League.

Enough said.
