Conor McGregor's return to UFC looks to have been put on hold after the UFC promotion website released its early schedule for 2020.The former two-weight champion claimed he would make his comeback fight on January 18 in Las Vegas, and it was believed that Donald Cerrone would be the opponent as part of the headline act for UFC 246.However, this seems to not be the case as the fight hasn't been listed on the UFC website.Yesterday, the promotion’s official website revealed UFC 246 will take place in Houston, Texas on February 8, but has yet to confirm whether McGregor will be the headline act.The card hasn’t been officially announced, but it is rumoured that Jon Jones’ latest defence of his light-heavyweight title versus Dominick Reyes will serve as the main event.

This will trouble McGregor, who has already refused to fight in a co-main event slot this year and would likely do so again given the importance of his comeback.

McGregor's manager Audie Attar has been quoted saying: "We've met them, we're in close communication with them. I would hope that an announcement could happen in the coming weeks, but at the end of the day, it's still a work in progress."

ESPN's MMA Twitter page has listed some options for a 2020 mega fight, and has included names such as Jorge Masvidal, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz, Nick Diaz and the winner of Usman vs Covington.

It will be interesting to see if any of these fighters could spoil McGregor's comeback.

McGregor hasn’t fought since October 2018 after losing his UFC 229 grudge match with Khabib via submission.

Ireland’s first UFC champion is looking to return to his active ways in 2020, setting his sights on entering the Octagon at least three times next year.

McGregor fans will be hoping for official confirmation from the UFC as soon as possible.
