Jofra Archer has become the latest victim of racial abuse in sport.

Amid England’s first Test against New Zealand, the fast-paced bowler became aware of the insults from just one supporter at the Bay Oval.

England suffered defeat to New Zealand in the first Test of the series, with the home side hammering Archer and the rest of his team by an innings and 65 runs.

After the match, though, Archer took to Twitter to address the issue that ruined an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable week for the man who was recently drafted by Southern Brave in The Hundred.

In the tweet, he said: "A bit disturbing hearing racial insults today whilst battling to help save my team, the crowd was been amazing this week except for that one guy, @TheBarmyArmy was good as usual also.”

In response to the news, New Zealand Cricket were quick to react and released a statement that the governing body will apologise directly to England’s World Cup hero.

"New Zealand Cricket will be contacting, and apologising to English fast bowler Jofra Archer, who was racially abused by a spectator as he left the field at the conclusion of the first Test at Bay Oval, Mt Maunganui," the statement read.

Archer claimed that it was just one individual behind the abuse. This is perhaps why security at the stadium failed to locate the 'fan' and take action.

The body are expected to examine CCTV in an attempt to identify the culprit.

They have assured that there will be increased vigilance and measures to stop anything like it happening again.

"We will contact Mr Archer tomorrow to apologise for the unacceptable experience and promise increased vigilance in the matter when the teams next meet in Hamilton," New Zealand Cricket added.

At one stage in the first Test, England had posted 353 runs and had conceded only 127 for four wickets. However, a double century hit from Bradley-John Watling saved the home side and helped New Zealand prevail in the first meeting between the two sides since the World Cup final.

Test two of two begins in just three days.
