It looks like the highly-anticipated matchup between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is finally going to happen in 2020.The pair have been scheduled to meet inside the Octagon on four separate occasions - most recently at UFC 223 - but injuries, weight-cutting issues and other freak incidents have meant it’s yet to happen. But the fifth time could be the charm, with ESPN reporting that the UFC are looking to book the fight for April 18 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.UFC president Dana White told ESPN that April 18 is the proposed date in which Nurmagomedov will defend his UFC Lightweight title against the 25-3 Ferguson.Khabib has signed his bought agreement to face Ferguson in April, according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.

Abdelaziz even shared an image on Twitter of his client’s signature.

ESPN claim Ferguson hasn’t signed yet but is interested in making the fight happen, pending further negotiations.

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been scheduled to meet four times in the past, dating back to 2015.

The Eagle withdrew in 2015 and 2017, due to injury and weight issues, while injuries forced the American to pull out in 2016 and 2018.

"Fifth time is the charm," Abdelaziz told ESPN. "Tony has been asking for this ass-whipping for a long time, and he deserves it.

“He's earned it. Khabib wanted this fight, Tony wanted it, the UFC wanted it and the fans wanted it. This fight is for the fans."

It promises to be an enthralling affair.

Nurmagomedov has a 28-0 record and has defended his UFC Lightweight championship on twice, defeating Conor McGregor in October 2018 and Dustin Poirier in September of this year.

Ferguson, meanwhile, is on a 12-fight win streak in the UFC and is the No.6 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, according to ESPN.

So, April 18 is the date that is looks set to finally happen. Let’s hope it does.
