Women’s Sports: The Red Roses conclude 2019 with a blossoming score line of 60-3

England Women v Italy Women - International Friendly

The Red Roses made sure that they would end the year on a high with a memorable scoreline ending in an astonishing 60-3.

Having gained the Six Nations title at their expense, England looked to put on another world-class performance as they hoped to have a clean sweep of victories in Autumn.

Vicky Fleetwood, Poppy Cleall and Heather Kerr proved to be a solid driving force in the scrum as the scoreline began to add up in the first 25 minutes. Abby Dow was another key player for the Roses as she beat two players to score and see England improve to a 22-3 lead.

With the ‘world player of the year’ award under her belt, Emily Scarratt made sure to show her world-class ability in addition.

With the rain pouring down on the pitch it was crucial for the Roses to be clinical but most importantly persistent whilst the Italians tired. Head coach Simon Middleton “thought the team played exceptionally well in really tough conditions”.

After three recent wins, many people can agree with England’s forward Sarah Berns in believing that the squad is in “a fantastic place”.

Having won 12 games from a possible 13 games, Simon Middleton’s side will look to defend their Six Nations title in February.
