UFC star Jorge Masvidal has hinted that he could fight boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather announced last week that he would be coming out of retirement in 2020 and that he would be working on a project with UFC president Dana White.

Masvidal reposted an Instagram story on his official account stating that he would fight Mayweather for the newly-created BMF belt at 154lbs.

He then took to Twitter to write: "Yes it is true. I can make 154."

Masvidal, who defeated Nate Diaz earlier this month, has boxed professionally before, scoring a win in his only bout back in 2005.

That fight was only a four-rounder, but Masvidal seems intent with returning to the boxing ring, calling out pound-for-pound monster Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez recently.

"I'm dead serious about trying to fight Canelo Alvarez, man," he said on the Ariel Helwani show earlier this month, per Mirror.

"They'll give me a nice little change, I'd take my talents over there, and I'm going for the off button, man. I feel like I can shock the world.

"I think I can throw enough punches that I can attack Canelo and put him on his ass. I'd be going for the knockout, obviously. Nothing else. This is not to disrespect Canelo, because I think the dude is a beast. I think he's a stud.

"It would be an honour to get in the ring with him. But he did say some sh*t like no MMA fighter would be a challenge and this and that. I beg to differ."

He clearly fancies himself as a boxer - or is keen on sealing a massive pay day.

Mayweather's last professional fight pitted him against UFC icon Conor McGregor, a bout which earned both men a ridiculous amount of money.

With Masvidal's stock on the rise after his enigmatic performances in the Octagon, there's no reason why a fight with Mayweather couldn't attract a similar level of interest.
