Juventus were happy to cash in on Paulo Dybala last summer, but the Argentine forward decided to stay in Turin and fight for his place in the first team.

And Juve boss Maurizio Sarri must be mightily relieved with Dybala’s decision following the forward’s contribution against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time with an exquisite free-kick from an acute angle. Juve subsequently booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages.

The free-kick was situated near the byline, just outside the penalty area, and both Dybala and Miralem Pjanic were hovering over the ball.

Aware that this set-piece was better-suited to the left-footed Argentina international, Pjanic left it for his teammate to take.

Dybala made the most of the opportunity, slamming the ball off the underside of the crossbar with a ferocious strike.

That the free-kick was scored against Jan Oblak, arguably the greatest goalkeeper in the world, made it even more remarkable.

Several new angles have since emerged thanks to fans filming the free-kick on their phones inside the Allianz Stadium.

The footage has been uploaded to social media and it makes the goal look even more ridiculous.

This is our favourite angle…

Magnificent.

This one from behind the goal is pretty decent, too…

As is this from up high…

A special, special strike. Oblak had absolutely no chance of stopping it.

“It was a good goal, as it was a difficult position, the angle was tight, there were lots of players in front of me,” Dybala told Sky Sport Italia, per Football Italia.

“The team played a really good game, especially the first half, and we’re happy with the win. I feel in good shape, I try to give my best and at times can risk something a little more audacious, as things are going well for me and I want to make the most of that.”

Dybala has now scored six goals in 15 games for Juve this season and was described by Sarri as “world class” after his latest performance.

“Dybala is world class,” the Italian coach told reporters, “in a very positive period of form, so right now he is making the difference.”
