Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski is the best number nine on the planet. There, we've said it.

Shelve Luis Suarez and Harry Kane for the moment and even Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi if you include them in this category, because there's no stopping the Polish striker right now.

If you're wondering why there's such superlative comments floating around Lewandowski at the moment, then look no further than his performance against Red Star Belgrade.

Despite unusually drawing a blank during the first half, Bayern's star man went into a whole new gear altogether by scoring four goals in the space of 14 minutes.

Unsurprisingly, Lewandowski became the fastest player to notch a quadruple in Champions League history as a result, adding a further layer of sheen to arguably his best start to a season.

Lewandowski shines vs Red Star

The 31-year-old has scored in all but one of Bayern's Bundesliga fixtures, every single one of their European games and currently boasts 27 strikes in just 20 appearances.

As a result, Lewandowski is both the leading goal scorers in Europe's top five leagues this season and across 2019 as a whole.

Those achievements are pretty mind-blowing in themselves, but we can dig even deeper when we look across Lewandowski's career as a whole.

Lewandowski's insane records

Keeping up with all his records and standout statistics is easier said than done, so we have the Bundesliga to thank for organising some of the most impressive earlier this week.

And where better place to start than literal Guinness World Records? Lewandowski collected no less than four official plaques for his legendary display against Wolfsburg in 2015.

After coming off the bench at half time, the Pole had Pep Guardiola in a state of shock after scoring in the 51st, 52nd, 55th, 57th and 60th minutes at the Allianz Arena.

Guinness World Records

The official world records went as follows:

1. The most goals scored by a substitute in the Bundesliga (five)

2. The fastest Bundesliga hat-trick (three minutes and 22 seconds)

3. The fastest four goals in a Bundesliga match (five minutes and 42 seconds)

4. Rhe fastest five goals in a Bundesliga match (eight minutes and 59 seconds)

Bundesliga records

Pretty remarkable going, but just because a goal-scoring achievement doesn't have Guinness crawling all over it, that doesn't make it any less impressive.

Check out some of Lewandowski's scoring records in the Bundesliga:

Most goals scored by an overseas player - 215

Most goals scored by a Polish player - 215 goals

Joint-record Polish appearance maker - 299 (equal to Lukasz Piszczek)

Fastest hat-trick - three minutes and 22 seconds

Fastest four-goal haul - five minutes and 42 seconds

Fastest five-goal haul - eight minutes and 59 seconds

Most goals by a substitute - five

Fastest foreigner to reach 100 goals - 168 games

International records

And here are his standout feats in a Poland jersey:

Most goals scored in a single UEFA EURO qualification campaign - 13 goals

Most goals scored in a single FIFA World Cup qualification campaign - 16 goals

Most hat-tricks scored in a single FIFA World Cup qualification campaign - three hat-tricks

Put respect on Lewandowski's name

Even if Lewandowski hung up his boots tomorrow, he'd do so with one of the best individual records we've seen from a number nine in the modern era.

But perhaps the biggest positive of his recent form is that wider demographics of football fans are starting to realise and share his astonishing goal-scoring exploits.

While it might be a shame that he's never ventured to the Premier League or La Liga, it shouldn't take away from his achievements in German football and on the international stage.
