On June 1, Andy Ruiz Jr shocked the world by beating an undefeated world champion in the form of Anthony Joshua, despite only taking the fight on just a few weeks' notice. With the rematch just around the corner, Ruiz discussed the fight and his opponent. The Mexican-American fighter claimed on Sky Sports' 'The Gloves Are Off' that AJ essentially 'quit' during their recent bout. "A little bit. I feel he quit because of the way that it was won. I think he was still out of it, I didn't think he knew where he was at at that moment.

I think that he quit.

Ruiz Jr recorded a seventh-round victory over Joshua on his American debut with a technical knockout.

During the earlier rounds, Joshua received a blow to the head via an unorthodox hit from Ruiz Jr, which appeared to unsettle the British fighter for the rest of the fight.

Nevertheless, with his pride and legacy on the line, Joshua seems more determined than ever to reclaim his title belts.

"I'm going to whup him and show how great I am.

"They think he's so great, so when I beat him I want everybody to bow to my feet and tell me how great I am.

"I couldn't beat Ruiz Jnr before and get the credit I deserved. You saw me in the ring (before the fight) - I wasn't fighting King Kong, was I? (I didn't have) that mindset.

"Apparently I'm fighting the quickest hands and the best fighter in the division. So once I beat him I want everybody to bow to me."

The fight is set to take place in Saudi Arabia, with the country seemingly making its long-awaited debut within the world of boxing.

During an interview, Eddie Hearn stated that this is where he would like to see some of the world's biggest fights take place in the future.

However, just like in New York, Ruiz Jr has claimed that he also wants to cement his name in the history books in the middle east.

"It feels good. You know I made history in New York and I'll make history again in Saudi Arabia."
