Chelsea needed a big result against Valencia to make to the knockout stages of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

They were unable to get the job done in Spain though and had to settle for a 2-2 draw - and once again, VAR played a big part in the result.

With the game level at 1-1, Christian Pulisic bundled the ball into the net to give the Blues a second-half lead, having come back from a goal down.

But while he was celebrating, the linesman's flag was raised for offside.

Naturally, the decision went to VAR and from the first replay, which was broadcast on live TV, it seemed Pulisic was clearly in an illegal position.

Yet, the technology didn't instantly rule out the goal.

Instead, after a long check which lasted over THREE minutes, the goal was given! It seems the video assistants found another angle that confirmed Pulisic was actually onside.

It's another highly controversial call, and one of the closest calls that VAR has given this season. Check it out:

Another day, another big VAR decision.

But that wasn't the end of the drama.

With both teams needing a win to secure qualification to the knockout round, it turned into a real end to end game.

Valencia were awarded a penalty shortly after going behind when Jorginho fouled Jose Gaya inside the box.

After another VAR check, the spot-kick was given. But Kepa Arrizabalaga, who's been criticised a lot this season, got down well to his right to push the penalty away.

He turned from Chelsea's hero to villain shortly after though, as Daniel Wass scored an incredible goal.

The Valencia midfielder drifted out to the right-wing and hit what looked like a cross into the box. But instead of finding a teammate, the ball floated straight over Kepa's head, into the net.

It was very poor goalkeeping. Despite seven minutes of added time, neither team could find a late winner and Group H will go right down to the wire, with Valencia and Chelsea level on eight points.
