Unai Emery is 'on the brink' of being sacked by Arsenal.

According to The Telegraph, his future is hanging by a thread with the club board weighing up potential options to replace him.

Former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo are said to be amongst the leading candidates for the job.

However, if the Gunners are unable to recruit a more experienced manager at this stage of the season, then Freddie Ljungberg, the current first-team assistant coach, could well take over.

Arsenal are on a run of six games without a win and with fans turning on the Spaniard, it seems he's living on borrowed time at the Emirates.

Despite being publicly backed by Vinai Venkatesham - the club's managing director - following defeat to Leicester, last weekend's draw with Southampton changed Emery's circumstances.

His side played so badly on Saturday and if it wasn't for an injury-time equaliser from Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners would have lost at home to much weaker opposition.

It seems that Emery's sacking is now a matter of when - not if - as we head towards the busy festive football period.

Bringing in someone like Nuno at this stage of the season makes sense, given that the Portuguese boss already has invaluable Premier League experience.

But despite being one of the favourites to take the Arsenal job, he has remained coy on his situation.

"You know I am not going to answer about that," the Wolves manager said when asked about being linked to the Gunners.

"I will never mention an issue that is not a reality. Speaking about a job as a manager would be disrespectful, I will not."

Arsenal face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night and should their winless run stretch to seven games, Emery could be out of the door before Sunday's domestic fixture against Norwich City.
