It could be argued that Liverpool could already be through if it had not been for Mohamed Salah's honesty in the second half.

With 20 minutes remaining and the Reds searching for a winner, Salah was inside the box getting manhandled by Kalidou Koulibaly.

There was more than enough contact to give a penalty, however, he Egyptian stayed on his feet in order to try and create a clear cut opportunity.

Unfortunately, he was unable to shake off the Senegalese international and the move came to nothing.

GIVEMESPORT'S James Stroud says:

Salah deserves a lot of credit in this particular situation.

The former Roma winger has earned a reputation as a 'diver' in the past for going down under minimal contact to win a foul.

There was more than enough contact here to do so again. In fact, if he did go down, there could be no complaints it was a penalty.

It's just a shame that footballers need to go down in these situations to convince the referee to give a foul.

In any other area in the pitch, the referee would have given advantage and given a foul if the move fizzled out.

But, because it was in the box, it's almost as if referees are scared to make that decision.

Salah's honesty may end up being very costly should Liverpool not get the result the need in Austria in two weeks time.
