Manchester City star striker, Ellen White, has said this season will be the biggest ever for the WSL as crowds continue to grow and attendance records continue to be broken.

Speaking to GiveMeSport at the British Sports Awards, she explained how impressed she was by the progress already made in the WSL this season.

"It's shown in the number of people coming to watch our games and the amount of backing and support we are getting from the men’s teams, and playing at bigger stadiums.

"Our first game of the season with Manchester City was at the Etihad - 31,000 fans. Tottenham beat that with 38,000 so it's about getting those people back and getting people to come week in week out and supporting the women’s game."

White, who moved to Manchester City from Birmingham City at the end of last season said she hopes for even more in future seasons for the WSL.

"I’m hoping for bigger and better, I hoping for more people coming to watch our games, supporting our game, growing our games."

The 30-year-old has said one way the WSL can be improved in the next ten years is by attracting more foreign players to the British league.

"Also, [I'm hoping for] more players wanting to play in the English league, it's one of the best leagues in the world. I'm hoping more people will be attracted to come to play over here."

Whilst at the British Sports Awards, she also gave props to fellow iconic British sportswoman, Dina Asher-Smith.

"What Dina achieved at the World Championship was incredible, she seems like such a lovely person... what she achieved for athletics was incredible."

Ellen White's Manchester City side will face Liverpool on 1 December at The Academy Stadium, as they continue their battle with Chelsea and Arsenal to top the table.

Looking ahead to the upcoming fixtures, White said: "It’s going to be so exciting, there’s going to be a big fight for the top of the table and that’s really exciting for the women’s game.

"We’ve got a big few games coming up and massive games after Christmas.”
