Unai Emery lost his job as Arsenal manager on Friday morning.

The Spaniard paid the price for a dismal run of form, having not tasted victory in his last seven games as manager.

Attention now turns to finding Emery's successor.

Freddie Ljungberg is in charge at Arsenal for the time-being, but his tenure is likely to be temporary.

Many big names have been touted as potential options, including Massimiliano Allegri and Brendan Rodgers.

And, in what would be an incredible appointment, Mauricio Pochettino is also said to be in the frame.

The Argentinian is currently without a job since leaving Arsenal's bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur  earlier this month.

And the Telegraph have even claimed that Pochettino is Arsenal's 'preferred candidate', with the Gunners keen to appoint a coach with Premier League experience.

Pochettino has previously said that he would never manage Arsenal.

“I am never going to be manager of Barcelona or Arsenal because I am so identified with Tottenham and Espanyol," he said last year, per talkSPORT.

“That is my decision because I prefer to work on my farm in Argentina than in some places."

However, Miguel Delaney of the Independent has claimed that there is a chance that Pochettino could be interested in the job.

"Re Arsenal, a few who know Poch maintain he is “ruling nothing out”, and is a bit put out by how things finished with Spurs," he wrote on Twitter.

GIVEMESPORT's James Stroud says:

Wow. Pochettino to Arsenal would be an incredible story.

It's still not overly clear whether he will be available given he left Spurs so recently.

As mentioned above, he's also said before that he would never manage Arsenal.

But things change in football. Jose Mourinho once said he would never manage Spurs, and now look at him.

If he is interested, then Arsenal have to go all out for him.

Out of all the managers without jobs at the moment, Pochettino is without doubt the best.

He worked miracles at Spurs, making them a perennial top four team and taking them to the Champions League final.

There's also a slight chance that he may want to get his own back on Spurs after they sacked him.

Ultimately, Arsenal need a capable manager who is going to make them an elite team once again. Pochettino will be able to do that.
