When Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager in the summer of 2018, there was a lot of expectation that he could bring back the club's glory days.

However, that was not the case.

After a promising first season, Arsenal completely fell apart during his second campaign as manager.

With the club on a seven game winless streak and having won just four of their 13 Premier League games, Emery was sacked on Friday.

He made numerous mistakes during his 18-month tenure.

But was his biggest error keeping Calum Chambers?

We've heard of many curses in football, including the 'Drake curse' and more recently the 'Ajax curse'.

And the 'Calum Chambers curse' was in full effect as Emery was sacked on Friday.

Chambers spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Middlesbrough. The club struggled and Aitor Karanka lost his job.

The English defender was brought back to Arsenal the following season. Arsenal struggled again and failed to qualify for the Champions League. Wenger left his role as manager.

Chambers was shipped out on loan to Fulham last season.

A lot was expected of the west London club, who spent big in the summer to try and make a mark back in the Premier League.

But they struggled massively. Slaviša Jokanović started the season as boss but lost his job before the turn of the year.

His replacement, Claudio Ranieri, was then sacked before the close of the season having won just three of his 17 games as manager.

And Emery decided to keep Chambers this season. And the curse would strike once again as the Spaniard lost his job just four months into the campaign.

Arsenal fans that wanted Emery out: You may have Chambers to thank as that wish came true on Friday.
