Donald Cerrone's comment to his manager after Conor McGregor fight was confirmed

Donald Cerrone seemingly cannot wait to take on Conor McGregor on January 18.

It was confirmed by UFC president Dana White that the duo would take to the Octagon to headline UFC 246 in Paradise, Nevada.

“Conor has signed and Cowboy is ready to go,” White told ESPN.

The welterweight clash is yet to receive official confirmation of taking place, however, White revealed this week that McGregor had signed a fight contract to return to the sport for the first time in 13 months.

Thirty-six-year-old Cerrone has been after a showdown with McGregor for a number of years and his manager Josh Jones revealed how ‘Cowboy’ responded once the fight was made official.

“Finally, I get my hands on him,” said Cerrone, as per the Metro.

Both battlers come into the showdown on the back of defeats.

Thirty-one-year-old McGregor has been inactive since October 2018, when he lost the UFC lightweight championship with a fourth-round submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Cerrone, meanwhile, has remained active in the sport with the ‘Cowboy’ most recently losing to a first-round knockout against Justin Gaethje in September.

That defeat proved to be a successive loss for Cerrone after previously falling victim to Tony Ferguson.

McGregor has promised to return to his best, putting aside a series of personal issues upon his return from another lengthy exodus from fighting.

The Irishman has been involved in a series of controversies including an allegation of robbery and assault in March 2019; McGregor was back in the spotlight in August 2019 as he was charged and fined €1,000 after a video was shared of him assaulting a man in Dublin.

It has been suggested that, if McGregor beats Cerrone, a rematch with Khabib could take place.

However, the Russian has suggested McGregor is fearful of a second showdown.

“Honestly I don’t think he wants that fight,” Khabib said. “I beat him up for four rounds. I beat him and choked him and he tapped.”
