Manchester City have dropped yet more points in their defence of the Premier League title, drawing 2-2 at Newcastle United.After 22 minutes, City took the lead thanks to Raheem Sterling who - undeterred by VAR this week - notched up his 14th goal of the season with a ruthless right-footed strike.However, the joy was short lived as Newcastle drew level just three minutes later, creating space around the area thanks to some penetrating movement and dribbling from Miguel Almiron.The ball eventually arrived at Jetro Willems' feet from 15 yards out and the Dutchman duly converted by slotting the ball into the bottom corner past Ederson's reach.From there on in, Steve Bruce's side continued to frustrate their visitors and entered half-time as the fourth Premier League team to hold City at the break this season.

Thriller in Newcastle

And in truth, very little changed when the two teams emerged and nobody summed up the situation better than the City admin on Twitter.

"Similar struggles so far in the second half with exploitable holes in the Newcastle defence few and far between," the official account penned. "We're pressing, but in need of a little inspiration."

And try as they might, a goal to put them in front just wouldn't arrive... until Kevin De Bruyne had something to say about things.

De Bruyne's worldie

The Belgian midfielder scored an early goal of the season contender, nearly tearing the St. James' Park goal from its turf with a volley that crashed in off the crossbar.

What an absolute worldie. For our money, there hasn't been a better goal scored in the Premier League season this seasom, but that didn't stop one of Newcastle's own from trying to top it.

Shelvey scores a screamer

De Bruyne's strike wasn't enough for City to collect all three points as Jonjo Shelvey levelled the scores with an inspired strike of his own, beating Ederson after a well-worked free-kick.

Huge opportunity for Liverpool

It takes a lot to beat City's goalkeeper, but Shelvey loves a long-range strike and despite a huge opportunity for Sterling to bag a brace, it proved sufficient for Newcastle to gain a point.

As a result, Liverpool now have the chance to move 11 points clear of the champions with a win at Brighton & Hove Albion.

City have already dropped points against Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Reds themselves this season.
