Liverpool extended their lead atop the Premier League standings to eleven points on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds clung on in the end after Virgil van Dijk's first-half brace proved to be just enough to secure all three points against Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp's men are making a habit of winning games the hard way and Saturday was no different after goalkeeper Alisson was sent off for a moment of madness on the edge of his box.

In the end, though, the Reds did just about enough but will be desperate to start killing off games with more regularity.

Still, 40 points from a possible 42 isn't half bad, is it?

Klopp's dogged juggernaut team are well on course to finally end their painful 30-year title drought, having marched to European glory earlier this year.

They are now 31 games unbeaten in the league - a club record - and could easily extend that run in the upcoming Merseyside derby this week.

The Anfield has looked unstoppable at times, and Brighton boss Graham Potter believes they simply have 'no weaknesses'.

Speaking after his side's narrow loss at Anfield, Potter was full of praise for Klopp's brilliant side.

“Congratulations to Liverpool, you can see why they are a top team.

“You could sense there were times Anfield had to get behind their team. Big credit to our players for that. I enjoyed the game and wanted it to carry on, to be honest.

“We put a lot into the game against a top, top team. There are no weaknesses with Liverpool, that's the truth.”

There you have it - Liverpool really are that good at the moment.

December could prove to be a pivotal month for Klopp's men as they face a stacked fixture list.

Ten games in 33 days await - including a trip to Qatar - and, if Liverpool can greet the dawning of the new year unscathed, that long-awaited title could already be sewn up.
