Wow.

The Red Devils had watched Wolves and Sheffield United play out a 1-1 draw and Arsenal struggle to a 2-2 tie with Norwich earlier in the day meaning they would leapfrog all three sides with a victory over Villa.

But the Villains were coming into the game on the back of a fine victory against Newcastle on Monday.

And they looked to have gained confidence from that win, which followed three consecutive league defeats.

And after Grealish's stunner, they thought they had doubled their lead.

Trezeguet bundled in from a goalmouth scramble but the assistant referee had his flag raised and VAR confirmed that it was indeed offside.

A win for Villa would actually put them level on points with their opponents and heap an enormous amount of pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

If they were to lose, Solskjaer's side would be in 11th just five points above the relegation zone. They'd also be an enormous 23 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
