Nico Rosberg has claimed that the next step for Lewis Hamilton’s Formula One career is to make the leap to Ferrari and be successful with the Italian constructor.

Rosberg, a former teammate of Hamilton’s, is “sure he would consider it” in the 2021 season when his contract expires with Mercedes.

However, the German former racer did state that it depended on whether Ferrari had a good season in the Constructors’ Championship in 2020.

Ferrari came second to Mercedes in this year’s Championship, claiming 504 points to Mercedes’ 739.

Ferrari’s highest points scorer was Charles Leclerc, in fourth with 264, a long way from Lewis Hamilton’s 413.

The Brit won the Championship by 87 points from Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Ferrari’s other driver and former four-time champion Sebastian Vettel finished fifth on 240 points.

Rosberg was speaking at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a raceday vlog on his YouTube channel, when he was quizzed about Hamilton's future.

Rosberg, of course, claimed his one and only Drivers’ Championship in 2016 whilst at Mercedes with Hamilton. The two were teammates from 2013 and 2016 and were childhood teammates in their go-karting days.

Hamilton has won six F1 titles, including five in last six years, as well as his maiden title in just his second year in Formula One back in 2008.

Hamilton’s second and third titles came whilst as a teammate of Rosberg’s at Mercedes. His latest three successive titles came after the German's retirement in 2016, where Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas has teamed with the Brit.

Hamilton is one title off equalling Michael Schumacher’s record of seven F1 titles.

In his raceday vlog, Nico Rosberg also mentioned the fuel flow discussion which took place between the three main constructors Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes, which the German racer claimed “got heated”.

Also in the vlog, Rosberg met fans, including Mana, a superfan of his from Japan.

He then fielded questions from his Twitter followers, where he stated that Max Verstappen has the brightest future out of the up-and-coming young drivers.

Rosberg also claimed that Red Bull have a chance at winning one of the Championships next season because Honda has “an awesome engine” and have a “good car”.

The German racer promised an “epic season” next year whilst stating that Daniel Ricciardo has been the most improved driver this season “after a poor start” whilst also wishing the best for fellow German Nico Hulkenberg and praised his achievements in the sport.

There was also praise for Hamilton’s win at Abu Dhabi, which he described as a “masterclass”.
