At the age 38, Roger Federer is showing no sign of slowing down.

It would be easy to argue that maybe this man has achieved just about everything there is to achieve in the sport of tennis, however, the records just keep tumbling.

Federer has a Grand Slam record of 20 tournament titles – more than any other male singles competitor, and is now writing his name into the history books once more in becoming the first living Swiss to be honoured with a commemorative coin.

The coin, which can be expected to be released in the new year, January 23 to be exact, can be purchased by fans of the tennis mogul for no less than $30 from the Swiss Mint website.

The Coin Itself

On the heads side of the coin will be Federer’s upper half holding a tennis racket with a tennis court vaguely in the background.

The flipside – tales - will covey its currency.

Arguably the world’s best ever tennis player – certainly the most coveted - and without question the undisputed No.1 during his peak, in which he spent 237 consecutive weeks at the top of the ATP rankings and a total of 310 weeks all said and done.

The Swiss icon brings with him an ore of class, calmness and a wealth of discipline to his game as well as being just an all-round nice guy.

One of Switzerland’s most successful and favourite sons; the Swiss government have heaped praise on Federer, acclaiming him to be the ‘perfect ambassador’ for this highly prestigious honour.

Over the course of his career, Federer has been known to be one of the true gents of the sport and really helped bring tennis to the forefront of main stream sport coverage.

Consistently eloquent and gracious in his style of play, Federer is the one true bench mark in modern tennis for future athletes to look up to – with more years behind him than in front of him at this stage in his playing career, it seems we can only appreciate him more and more.

The Swiss Mint certainly recognise his value; a true living legend.
