Liverpool’s Alisson has won the first-ever Yashin Trophy at tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris.

Since his £67 million move from Roma to Anfield in the summer of 2018, the Brazilian has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

He played a crucial role in Liverpool’s Champions League win last season, making eight saves during their 2-0 win against Tottenham in the final.

In the Premier League, he won the Golden Glove after registering 21 clean sheets, helping his side earn 97 points.

And now he’s been rewarded with the Yashin Trophy - the prize created this year to recognise the best goalkeeper in the world during the past year.

The award is named after legendary Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin who is regarded to be the best goalkeeper in football history and is the only ’keeper to have won the Ballon d’Or, back in 1963.

Alisson beat the nine other nominees: Kepa, Jan Oblak, Marc-Andre tee Steven, Samir Handanovic, Hugo Lloris, Manuel Neuer, Ederson, Andre Onana and Wojciech Szczesny.

As well as dominated at club level, Alisson also won the 2019 Copa America with Brazil

This season hasn’t quite been as successful for the 'keeper, though.

He suffered a calf injury on the opening day of the season and missed the next 11 matches.

Since his return, Liverpool are yet to keep a clean sheet and he was sent off at Saturday for handling the ball outside of the area.

That red card will mean he’s suspended for the Merseyside on Wednesday.

But there’s no doubt that Alisson has helped transform this Liverpool side.

Previously, the Merseyside club had to reply on Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Incredible shot-stopping ability and the ability to begin attacks with his feet, Alisson is the perfect goalkeeper for this Liverpool side.

He’ll just hope that this Yashin isn’t the only piece of silverware he’ll be lifting this season.

With Liverpool currently eight points clear at the top, they’ve heavy favourites to win their first-ever Premier League title come May.
