On the same night Lionel Messi won his sixth Ballon d'Or, Cristiano Ronaldo was scooping a prize of his own.

The Juventus forward was named Serie A's Most Valuable Player, as well as the best forward for the 2018/19 season and he chose to attend that ceremony, rather than the one in Paris.

Well, actually, he chose to make a very short appearance to pick up his award.

According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Ronaldo waited in his car until the exact moment he knew he'd win the MVP award.

Only then did he get out and walk into the ceremony.

To make the situation even weirder, his bodyguards were apparently pointing touches at cameras to stop photographers getting good shots as he entered.

"UNBELIEVABLE! Cristiano Ronaldo waited in his car for the moment in which he had to be awarded MVP Serie A award!" Palmeri tweeted.

"Then when the time came, he finally got out to enter the theatre, while his bodyguards pointed torchlights to cameras!"

GIVEMESPORT's Ollie Browning says:

This is peak Ronaldo. Did we expect anything else from the Juventus superstar?

First of all, I think it's very strange that Serie A organised an awards ceremony on the same night the Ballon d'Or was being handed out.

Ronaldo wasn't the only player from the Italian league up for a prize at both events - Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was also on the Ballon d'Or shortlist.

Incidentally, he was named the Italian league's best defender. But at least he turned up for the whole night.

Ronaldo's decision to arrive at the final moment, only when he was announced as the MVP, shows off his arrogant side that we know has been there all along.

To me, it suggests that he can't accept being viewed as anything less than the best and with that in mind, it's no surprise he snubbed the Ballon d'Or ceremony too.
