Ryan Giggs will ban Gareth Bale from playing golf next summer because he wants the forward to focus on football during Euro 2020.

The Wales manager is also concerned that swinging golf clubs could lead to his star man suffering a recurrence of one of the muscle injuries that have affected his career.

According to The Telegraph, Bale usually arranges to play rounds during his downtime while on international duty.

But given Wales have been drawn into a tough group at Euro 2020 with Italy, Turkey and Switzerland, he will be made to focus on football.

Jonathan Ford, the Welsh FA’s chief executive, is currently searching for a place to set up a base for the tournament and confirmed that there will be no golf courses close.

"Ryan is clear that while in camp our focus should be on the football," he said, per The Telegraph's report.

"Golf won’t be on my checklist when I look at base camps. You can’t be in a situation where you have players risking their fitness by playing golf.

"I appreciate that some players look at it differently. You can’t train all day so there has to be some entertainment for the guys."

Bale is not the only keen golfer in Wales' squad. In fact, the captain regularly plays with teammates Wayne Hennessey and Aaron Ramsey.

But come June, his focus will be solely on football.

Last month, when Wales confirmed their place at Euro 2020 by beating Hungary, Bale was criticised for celebrating with a flag that read 'Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order'.

That was a clear indicator of where his priorities lie, but next summer, it seems he'll be settling for: 'Training. Training. Training. In that order.'
