Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United is on a knife edge after yet another disappointing result heaped yet more pressure on the embattled boss.United were held to their second draw in a row against a newly promoted side and, with the club languishing in ninth on the table, Solskjaer is on the brink.

The next five days could be telling with two massive clashes lurking around the corner for the Red Devils.Jose Mourinho is set to return to Old Trafford with a rejuvenated Tottenham side while Pep Guardiola and Manchester City lie in wait at the weekend.

Win those, and Solskjaer might just be able to turn the tide, lose, and it really could be game over for the former striker.

In fact, according to The Sun, Solskjaer has already told his players that he will be given the sack if they fail to get a positive result in the coming days.

A source close to United has said:

“Ole was a little bit emotional and told them that if they don’t get two results this week, he could be gone.

“It is the worst time to be facing Spurs with Jose coming back.”

Crikey - it really is a make or break week for Solskjaer.

It seems the recent firing of Mauricio Pochettino has only accelerated Solskjaer’s potential demise with the Argentine said to be waiting in the wings for the Norwegian to be given his marching orders.

Despite Ed Woodward’s repeated backing, Solskjaer seems to believe that if the current run of mediocrity continues, the club hierarchy could make a move for Pochettino.

With Mourinho desperate to leave Old Trafford with all three points, Solskjaer has urged his players to give all they can in order to spoil ‘The Special One’s’ return.

The source added: “Ole told the players all his and their focus now has to go straight to the Spurs game.

“He was not being critical of Jose in any way but made it clear to the players just how much their old boss will want to win.”

Publicly however, Solskjaer has been coy on his future, laughingstocks off rumours that he could be on his last legs.

GIVEMESPORT's Paul Conolly says:

Whatever the results in the next few days, one thing is for sure, things could look very different at United this time next week.

Solskjaer simply has to arrest the slide, or make room for someone who can while there is still time to rescue United’s season.

Whether Woodward is willing to wield the axe is another kettle of fish entirely but something has to be done.

Manchester United are far too big a club to be in this kind of state and their fans deserve better.
