The first hour of Monday Night Raw last night saw an angle that all WWE fans have seen before - a superstar getting arrested and sent to the cop shop.

After weeks of tormenting Rusev, both Bobby Lashley and Lana had handcuffs strapped to their wrists, both for 'assaulting police officers' in Nashville.

The segment itself was laughable, but judging by the viewing numbers of it on YouTube, Vince McMahon will be very, very pleased with himself.

Whilst this particular 'arrest' was cringeworthy, there have been times that segments of this kind have been really great, and we will look at the top five in the history of WWE.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

One that didn't get into the top five was Stephanie McMahon being carted off in July 2014 for attacking Brie Bella on Raw.

Brie had previously quit WWE and she appeared in the front row as a paying fan, but after Stephanie slapped her she was taken away by law enforcement - it wasn't great acting by the pair but the crowd absolutely ate it up.

Another moment that didn't quite make it to the list was Goldberg being arrested at No Way Out 2004.

He jumped the barricade to square up to Brock Lesnar, who attacked him at the Royal Rumble, and he ended up manhandling the then-WWE Champion.

Goldberg was subsequently escorted from the arena in handcuffs - but he would return later in the evening.

Now let's have a look at what we have ranked the best five arrests in WWE history!

5. THE MIZ AND R-TRUTH ARRESTED AT HELL IN A CELL 2011

This pay-per-view ended with a Triple Threat match between Alberto Del Rio, John Cena and CM Punk - and after the Cell was partially raised after the match, R-Truth and The Miz ran in in black hoodies and attacked everyone in sight as the structure was lowered again.

For context, the two were 'The Awesome Truth' at the time, and Triple H had fired them weeks before after The Miz put his hands on a referee.

The whole locker room were frantically trying to get into the Cell to apprehend the pair, but it was only when a man armed with a pair of bolt-cutters appeared did they up stopping their beat-down.

They were put in handcuffs and the sight of Triple H attacking them made for great entertainment!

4. RONDA ROUSEY, BECKY LYNCH & CHARLOTTE ARRESTED ON RAW IN 2019

To build more hype for their WrestleMania 35 main event match, all three women competed in a six-woman tag match on the same team on Raw just six nights before the event.

After Ronda got the victory for her team, things descended into chaos as security tried to pull apart the brawling women.

That led to police cuffing all of them, but a bizarre decision to put both Lynch and Rousey in the same cop car saw another brawl ensue, in which Rousey smashed the window of the vehicle.

Whilst still handcuffed, Ronda somehow smashed one police car into the other, and then Charlotte hit Ronda with a stiff knee strike with her head hanging out of the smashed window.

Ridiculous, but amazing at the same time.

3. THE UNDERTAKER ARRESTED ON RAW IN 1999

Ministry Undertaker was the darkest character of his existence - he was evil and Satanic - and when he instructed his faction to attack Big Boss Man, things didn't end as planned.

Taker tried to 'sacrifice' Boss Man on his symbol, but he broke free and the Ministry were met by The Union - which consisted of Mankind, Big Show and others.

And when Vince McMahon's stooges Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson instructed Philadelphia's police force to arrest Taker, The Deadman himself somehow set his symbol on fire and gave himself up.

That was a sight to behold in itself, but the sinister look of Taker in the police car maniacally laughing at Mr McMahon as he shouted at him was just amazing.

2. VINCE MCMAHON ARRESTED ON RAW IN 2015

Mr McMahon was not happy that Roman Reigns had overcome the odds to become WWE Champion in December 2015, so he tried to push his buttons on the final Raw of 2015.

With Stephanie begging the NYPD to arrest Reigns for pushing her father to the mat inside the ring, the tables turned when Vince himself was handcuffed for manhandling the police.

The segment wasn't amazing but the crowd loved it, and the 'mugshots' that came out of Vince afterwards were comedy gold - and it's always funny to see the 'big boss' being held accountable for his actions.

1. STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN ARRESTED ON RAW IN 1998

With Vince McMahon set to present the WWF Championship to The Undertaker and Kane on Raw in September 1998, Stone Cold had other ideas.

He drove to ringside in a zamboni, which is used to clean an ice rink, he climbed on top of it and he defied the line of police - jumping over them to attack Mr McMahon.

Austin was hauled to the parking lot into a police car, followed by an irate McMahon, and whilst Austin has been 'arrested' multiple times on WWE television, this was by far the most entertaining.
