Marco Van Basten has landed in hot water after controversial comments made last month.Van Basten, 55, was working as an analyst for Fox Sports when he was heard saying the German phrase 'Sieg Heil'.The term translates into English as 'hail victory' and became notorious for its use at Nazi rallies.Van Basten was off screen at the time and did not realise his mic was still on.The former Dutch forward was consequently suspended by the television network for a week.

And his comments have also caused EA Sports to act.

Van Basten is an Icon on FIFA 20 but that's not the case anymore, at least for now.

That's because EA Sports have decided to make him unavailable to pack or play with on Ultimate Team Draft.

"We are aware of recent comments made by Marco van Basten," they wrote.

"We have an expectation that our commitment to equality and diversity is upheld across our game.

"As such, we will suspend Marco van Basten ICON items from being available in Packs, SBCs and FUT Draft until further notice."

That means you will still be able to play with Van Basten if you own him on Ultimate Team. He will also still be able to buy on the market, as well.

Van Basten has since apologised for his comments.

“I didn’t mean to shock people, I just wanted to ridicule Hans’ German, but I’m sorry,” Van Basten said, per talkSPORT.

Whether EA Sports will reverse their decision remains to be seen.
