After making a habit of not finishing races in 2019, Sebastian Vettel appears to be continuing the trend as he crashed during the F1 Winter testing. The testing took place in Abu Dhabi where one driver from each team tested their new models out around the Yas Marina Circuit. Here is who represented each team:

Mercedes: Bottas, Ferrari: Vettel, Red Bull: Verstappen, McLaren: Norris, Renault: Ocon, Toro Rosso: Gelael (am) Kvyat (pm), Racing Point: Perez, Alfa Romeo: Raikkonen, Haas: Grosjean, Williams: Russell (am) Nissany (pm). With the obvious absence of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel was arguably the biggest name on show.

Despite winning four World Championships, the German has had a season to forget, crashing out of numerous races and finishing 5th overall in the rankings. While 5th doesn’t sound too bad, the stat that sums up Vettel’s season is that he finished 173 points behind Lewis Hamilton, his renowned competitor and rival. The Ferrari driver will be hoping for a change in fortune for the 2020 season as he aims to win a title for the first time since 2013.However, after an early collision with a Racing Point car driven by Sergio Perez, Vettel was inevitably thinking the worst.

Despite the bad start, the 32-year-old recovered well and was second fastest in the testing, only behind last year’s Championship runner up Valtteri Bottas.

This will give Sebastian Vettel confidence looking towards the 2020 season after his well-documented disappointing 2019 campaign.

Formula One recently announced the 2020 season will now have 22 races with 7 back to back race weekends.

The current winter testing provides plenty of time for the F1 teams to work on their models and prepare for the upcoming season, which begins with the Australian Grand Prix on the 15th March.

Sebastian Vettel will be hoping more than anyone that he can get back to his previous title winning form, ensuring his return to the podiums for Ferrari.
