Some fans thought it was never going to happen, but WWE have FINALLY confirmed the long-overdue signing of John Morrison.

A former Intercontinental, Tag Team and ECW World Champion, Morrison's return was reported by PW Insider way back in late September.

Morrison though came out and denied the report, which cast a cloud over his wrestling future having recently departed IMPACT Wrestling.

But last night on WWE Backstage, journalist Ryan Satin confirmed that Morrison was returning to the company where he made his name on a 'multi-year contract'.

The last time WWE fans saw Morrison in their ring was way back in 2011, and years later he admitted to Stone Cold Steve Austin he left because he was injured and he was frustrated over his creative direction.

Before that he was relatively successful, winning the WWE Tag Team Championships multiple times with Joey Mercury and The Miz. He was also a three-time Intercontinental Champion and won the ECW World Championship in 2007 on the re-launched show.

After leaving WWE, Morrison travelled the independent scene, joined forces with Lucha Underground, went to Lucha Libre AAA and finally ended up at IMPACT Wrestling, becoming their world champion in 2018.

It's hard to believe that Morrison is 40 considering what kind of shape he is in, and you'd imagine he's got quite a lot left in the tank.

But what brand does he end up on?

There's every chance that he could re-unite his old partnership with The Miz on SmackDown, or he could just go solo on either the blue brand or Monday Night Raw.

However you could also make the case for sending him to NXT, where he could be a top challenger for the NXT Championship and face the likes of Tommaso Ciampa and Finn Balor.

But considering he's an established name already, Vince McMahon will probably want him on the main roster - and if he hasn't returned by the Royal Rumble, you know exactly when he's coming!
