Many of us grew up watching AC Milan dominate Italian and European football.

But all that seems a very long time ago now.

In the previous six Serie A seasons, Milan have finished eighth, 10th, seventh, sixth, sixth and fifth.

They even had to sacrifice their place in the Europa League this season due to financial irregularities.

Will we ever see Milan back where they belong?

Yes. Very soon actually.

That’s if a report from Spanish outlet La Republica, per AS, is to be believed.

They’re claiming that the third richest man in the world, Bernard Arnault, wants to buy the club.

Arnault, who oversees an empire of more than 60 brands including Louis Vuitton and Sephora, is worth an eye-watering $101.2bn.

Only Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are richer than the Frenchman.

Milan would, naturally, become the richest club in the world and Arnault plans to invest heavily.

And he’s already targeting two arrivals - Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola.

Messi might be turning 33-years-old at the end of the season but that hasn’t put Arnault off.

As for Guardiola, the Italian club only appointed Stefano Pioli in October but he hasn’t done too much to change the fortunes of Rossoneri.

Could Messi and Guardiola reunite in Milan?

GIVEMESPORT’s Rob Hoskin says:

This would be quite remarkable. It’s hard to say how close Arnault’s potential takeover of Milan is. But we all know takeovers are complicated processes and these things often fall through.

Then there’s the idea of signing both Messi and Guardiola.

No matter how much money he’s getting paid, would Messi really be interested in a move to Milan at this stage of his career? If he does ever leave Barca, it will probably back to his native Argentina, where he’ll have no chance of competing against the Camp Nou club in European competitions.

Meanwhile, there are also no signs of Pep being unhappy at City. Although having a hefty transfer budget to spend would no doubt appeal to the Spaniard.

But like we say, the takeover needs to actually happen before Milan can even start about dreaming of a Messi/Guardiola reunion.
