Five ways WWE could re-introduce John Morrison into their programming

John Morrison

Last night on WWE Backstage, the worst-kept secret right now in the company was finally revealed.

That's right, the re-signing of John Morrison was announced by dirtsheets all the way back in September, but it took WWE over two months to officially confirm the details.

They announced that the former ECW Champion had signed a 'multi-year contract' to return, but what brand he ends up joining remains to be seen.

The 40-year-old still has a lot left in the tank and there's a plethora of talent on the roster that he's never wrestled, so we've listed five ways in which WWE could book Morrison to return after eight years away.

RETURN IN THE ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH

This one is the obvious one to go with, and with less than two months until the 2020 Rumble, the timing couldn't be better.

We've seen huge debuts in the Rumble match in years gone by, most recently AJ Styles, and the re-debut of Morrison here would create a huge noise.

Whoever eliminates Morrison could potentially enter a rivalry with him going forward - the possibilities are endless.

REFORM HIS TAG TEAM WITH THE MIZ

John Morrison and The Miz were once Tag Team Champions together

In 2007, Morrison and Miz became WWE Tag Team Champions, despite being in a feud with each other at the time.

They slowly became friends though throughout their reigns and even came up with their WWE.com show 'The Dirt Sheet' which they ended up presenting on Monday Night Raw.

The duo did end up parting ways in 2009 though following the WWE Draft, but it would be a good way to re-debut Morrison and give Miz a bit more direction, as let's face it - he hasn't done much recently.

RE-DEBUT IN NXT

There are three brands that John Morrison could potentially end up on

With NXT in a battle with All Elite Wrestling for ratings supremacy on Wednesday nights, what harm could another big name do?

There are so many matches that fans would love to see Morrison take part in - there's Finn Balor, Adam Cole, Tommaso Ciampa and many others on that particular roster.

And we haven't even mentioned Johnny Gargano - Morrison has taken on many different names in his post-WWE career - maybe he can become Johnny NXT and take on the face of Full Sail?

RETURN ON RAW AND FACE A HEEL SETH ROLLINS

Even though he's acting like a babyface, it looks as though Seth Rollins will make a heel turn in the near future - the seeds have been planted already.

And if WWE go down the route of pairing Seth with AOP, he can brag about no one being man enough to take down his new stable - until Morrison arrives.

Former ECW Champion Morrison should be returning to the ring for WWE very soon indeed.

It would make him a major player on Raw from the get-go, and he could even partner up briefly with Kevin Owens and others to try and take down Monday nights' potential new super-faction.

JOINS SMACKDOWN TO BOLSTER THE MAIN EVENT SCENE

The upper echelons of the blue brand's roster isn't the strongest, and when you look past The Fiend, Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns, it looks a bit thread-bare.

You have of course Braun Strowman who hasn't been used like he should have been, and then the likes of The Miz and King Corbin, but Morrison could add a different dynamic to the show.

There will of course be initial excitement for his return, and that could propel him straight into the main event of whatever show he ends up on - but FOX may get first refusal on where he lands.
