Trent Alexander Arnold hit one of the passes of the season in build-up to third goal v Everton

Liverpool FC v Everton FC - Premier League

Liverpool made light work of their Stanley Park neighbours last night, battering Everton 5-2 in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

Divock Origi was a man possessed in the first half, returning to haunt his favourite Blues with two sublime goals.

The first was courtesy of an inch-perfect Sadio Mane pass that saw Origi easily round a floundering Jordan Pickford before cooly slotting home into an unguarded net.

Ultimately, Origi would miss out on a well-deserved hat trick but there can be no denying it was one of his finest performances in a Liverpool shirt.

However, he wasn't the only Reds player having a party in that first half.

Xherdan Shaqiri showed exactly what he is capable of and even managed to grab his first goal in nearly a year.

It was an incredible team move to set the little Swiss in though, and Liverpool fans were left purring after Trent Alexander Arnold produced another missile of a diagonal in the build-up.

Alexander-Arnold's passing range is simply unfair at times, and, when he pinged a drive cross-field to set Mane away, Anfield could only gasp and applaud.

Not bad, not bad at all.

That win saw Liverpool extend their lead over Leicester City back to eight points and they now face a trip down south to Bournemouth at the weekend.

December is going to be an absolutely manic month for Klopp and co. but, if they can come through it unscathed, they will surely be on the brink of finally getting their hands on that Premier League trophy.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and the football promises to be quite a feast.
