Arsenal extended their winless run to nine games tonight after a 2-1 loss to Brighton at the Emirates.

The hosts fell behind early on to a goal from Adam Webster, but they managed to equalise shortly after the interval through Alexandre Lacazette.

But Brighton striker Neal Maupay was on hand to deliver all three points with a deft header late on, heaping more pressure on Freddie Ljungberg and the Arsenal board.

The Gunners have now failed to win in their last nine games in all competitions, with their last victory coming against Vitoria at home in the Europa League.

It was a woeful first-half performance from the home side, with the Gunners straight away slipping back into the inept football associated with the Unai Emery era.

Brighton dominated possession and tested Bernd Leno on a regular basis, before finally breaching the German's goal in the 36th minute.

Arsenal failed to defend a corner properly and centre-back Webster fired the ball past Leno from inside the box.

Joe Willock missed a glorious chance from six yards out just before the break, with Mat Ryan saving his weak header, but Arsenal were deservedly booed off at the Emirates once again.

However, the hostile reception from the crowd at the break - combined with the introduction of Nicolas Pepe - galvanised the team as they found the equaliser in the 50th minute.

Lacazette flicked home a corner from Mesut Ozil at the near post to hand the Gunners a much-needed lifeline.

But the hosts were behind once again with 10 minutes left on the clock as Maupay brilliantly glanced home Aaron Mooy's cross.

Arsenal's season is in tatters, with top four looking a totally unrealistic aspiration right now.

It's the Europa League, or bust...
