Manchester United players told the club's board that they should not sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Wednesday's win against Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Telegraph, the dressing room is convinced that he's the right man to take them forward and conveyed that message to senior figures.

Their show of faith comes after Solskjaer's position was said to be under scrutiny.

Before the 2-1 victory against Spurs, United had won just four of their first 14 Premier League games this season.

The fact that the squad have made their support known to the club's hierarchy is a major boost for the Norwegian manager ahead of this weekend's Manchester derby.

It's not just the players who back him either.

The Telegraph's report adds that 'privately, the club's board are still supportive of Solskjaer despite United’s disappointing start'.

They even accept that more setbacks could come over the next few weeks but believe he's capable of turning things around in the long run.

There's a feeling that he's overseeing a 'cultural reboot' at Old Trafford, which focuses on 'instilling better discipline and giving more opportunities to young, hungry players, from the academy'.

The board accept that Solskjaer's project will take a lot of time and investment and will reportedly make money available to him next month.

It's good to see that Man United's board and more importantly - their squad - are committed to backing Solskjaer.

We've seen four Premier League managers sacked in the last couple of weeks due to players downing tools and before Wednesday's big win, the Norwegian was in danger of joining them.

But perhaps rivals Arsenal are serving as a cautionary tale. Unai Emery has gone, but the team is still struggling.

Right now, the Gunners are proving that grass isn't always greener and it seems United are aware of that, so don't expect to see Solskjaer axed any time soon.
