How the Premier League table would look if VAR wasn't being used this season

Gameweek 15 in the Premier League was an unusual viewing experience for fans.As tradition in the first week of December, the matches took place midweek. There's always something special about a full set of Premier League fixtures in midweek, isn't there?But more significantly, all 10 games were shown on Amazon Prime. Viewers could watch whichever match they wanted with staggered kick-off times allowing us to watch even more football.The introduction seems to have been a resounding success.Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the introduction of VAR.

Each week, GIVEMESPORT bring you 'How the Premier League table would look without VAR.'

To do this, we look at all the overturned VAR decisions from the previous gameweek and speculate how the match would have turned out without the use of technology.

Remarkably, during the Tuesday and Wednesday matches this week, there were no overturned VAR decisions. That's not to say there wasn't any controversy, though.

Leicester's Jamie Vardy was booked by the referee for a dive against Watford and, despite replays appearing to show that the striker was actually fouled, VAR upheld the decision.

But on Thursday, VAR became the talking point once again.

During the Sheffield United vs Newcastle clash, Andy Carroll was flagged offside by the assistant referee as he flicked the ball onto Jonjo Shelvey. Referee Stuart Atwell allowed play to continue as Shelvey put the ball in the back of the net. Replays showed that Carroll was actually onside in the first place and VAR overruled the offside.

Then, at the Emirates, David Luiz thought he had put Arsenal 2-1 up against Brighton but VAR disallowed it as replays showed he was clearly offside.

So, let's take VAR completely out of the equation. Here's how the Premier League table would look like if we weren't using it this season following gameweek 15:

Incident: David Luiz's 63rd-minute goal was, somehow, given by the officials but replays showed that he was clearly offside and VAR ruled it out.

Outcome without VAR (ARSENAL WIN): Luiz's goal would have put Arsenal 2-1 up and you would have fancied them to go on to win the match if the goal had stood. Of course, VAR ultimately made the correct decision.

Game: Newcastle (H)

Incident: Andy Carroll was flagged offside in the build-up to Jonjo Shelvey's 70th-minute goal. However, referee Stuart Attwell did brilliantly to allow play to continue as replays showed Carroll was actually onside and the goal stood.

Outcome without VAR (NEWCASTLE WIN): With 20 minutes remaining, Shelvey's goal put Newcastle 2-0 up and sealed the three points. If it had been disallowed, Steve Bruce's side would have been holding on but we back them to have still earned all three points.
