“My vision, my ambition and my will is always to fight for the title between the club, the players and the coach. We have the possibility to fight for the title.”

No that isn’t a Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester or Chelsea player speaking. That, in fact, was David Luiz back in October.

Even at the time, fans were questioning Luiz’s logic.

Seven games later, his prediction looks even more laughable.

That’s because the Gunners haven’t won since.

Just two days after his comments, Arsenal lost 1-0 to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. They followed that up with a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace - a match remembered for THAT Granit Xhaka incident.

Then came a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves before an away defeat to Leicester.

The 2-2 draw against Southampton at the Emirates was Unai Emery’s last Premier League game in charge, while Freddie Ljungberg could only draw against Norwich by the same scoreline.

Then came Thursday night’s 2-1 loss to Brighton.

So, where does that leave Arsenal?

Well, in terms of their title ambitions, they’re just the 24 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Meanwhile, they’re only five points above the relegation zone.

Luiz must be seriously regretting his ‘title’ comments right now.

And things aren’t going to get any easier for the north London side.

They face an away trip to West Ham on Monday before hosting Manchester City next weekend. Trips to Everton and Bournemouth follow over the Christmas period before home matches against Chelsea and Manchester United on New Years’ Day.

There’s a genuine possibility that Arsenal could be sitting dangerously close to - or even in - the relegation zone come the start of 2020.

What happened to that title challenge, David?
