Chelsea's transfer ban has been lifted, meaning the club can buy players again in January.

FIFA's original decision would have stopped the Blues from making any signings for two windows, until the summer of 2020, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport has halved that punishment.

Given the west London side were banned from buying last summer, they are now free to spend again next month.

But things are going very well at Chelsea right now - perhaps better than many expected. So will Frank Lampard actually want to make signings that might upset the balance of his team?

Well, he has recently hinted that he's looking to strengthen. So, what could Chelsea's starting XI look like in February, after the winter transfer window? Check it out below.

Goalkeeper - Kepa Arrizabalaga

There's no need to sign a new goalkeeper. Kepa is already Chelsea's record signing and despite looking patchy at times this season, he'll be the club's number one for many years.

Right-back - Reece James

James has seriously impressed since breaking into the first-team.

He's already one of the most exciting young full-backs in the Premier League and provided an assist for Tammy Abraham's goal against Aston Villa earlier this week.

The youngsters brilliant crossing will be a weapon for years to come.

Centre-back - Nathan Ake

Chelsea ideally need to sign a new centre-back to partner either Antonio Rudiger or Fikayo Tomori.

The Blues reportedly have a buyback clause of £40 million in Ake's contract after selling him to Bournemouth and the Dutchman has impressed on the south coast.

It wouldn't be out of the question to see him return to Stamford Bridge.

Centre-back - Fikayo Tomori

Tomori isn't likely to lose his place in Chelsea's side anytime soon, and he could be the perfect partner for someone like Ake.

Left-back - Ben Chilwell

Chelsea desperately need a new left-back. Emerson isn't a strong enough option and Lampard seems to be phasing out Marcos Alonso.

Chilwell is currently one of the best full-backs in the Premier League so he won't come cheap, but he will fit perfectly into Lampard's young, exciting XI.

Centre-midfield - Jorginho

Very little needs to change in terms of Chelsea's midfield. But if Cesar Azpilicueta loses his place to James, then Jorginho could be the team's new captain.

Centre-midfield - N'Golo Kante

There's no chance Kante will lose his place in the starting XI. He's one of the best midfielders in Europe and a key part of Lampard's plans.

Centre-midfield - Mason Mount

Mount has shown more than enough to keep his place too. The 20-year-old is basically Lampard 2.0 and showed his promise with a brilliant volley to secure Chelsea's win against Villa this week.

Left-wing - Wilfried Zaha

Zaha was linked with Chelsea long before the transfer ban was issued and now might be the time for Lampard to pull the trigger.

The Crystal Palace forward is one of the most exciting in the Premier League, but would he even get into Lampard's side ahead of Christian Pulisic? That is still unclear.

Striker - Tammy Abraham

Like a few of his teammates, Abraham certainly won't be displaced anytime soon. He already seems so important to Chelsea with 12 goals in 21 appearances this season.

He was absent for a recent fixture against West Ham and it was clear how much the Blues missed him, so there's no reason for Lampard to replace him.

Right-wing - Jadon Sancho

We've saved the best until last. Sancho is one of Europe's most exciting talents and he's said to be very unhappy at Borussia Dortmund right now.

The winger is more than ready for a Premier League return, having ripped up the Bundesliga. Oh, and he's also a boyhood Chelsea fan too. It's all coming together nicely.

Now, we're not expecting Chelsea to sign all of these players and completely transform the team - but all of these players have been linked with the Blues.

There's also a real chance Lampard will splash the cash in January, perhaps most likely on Sancho and Chilwell.

If he does, Chelsea will have one of the most exciting starting XIs in Europe very soon.
