Jose Mourinho's unbeaten start to life at Tottenham Hostpur came to a shuddering halt this week at Manchester United.

Mourinho would have been hoping to storm his old stomping ground and grab all three points but a Marcus Rashford brace was enough to sink his new side.

It was a stark reality check for Mourinho, who will know more than ever just how much work needs to be done.

The January transfer window represents the first opportunity for the Portuguese to stamp his mark on his new side and it seems he could be turning to a familiar face at the first time of asking.

That is because, according to Bleacher Report, Mourinho is set to snatch his favourite son - Nemanja Matic - from his Manchester conquerers.

That'll show em' Jose.

Per the report, United are willing to let the Serbian go for as little as £15 million having played just twice under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

Matic has enjoyed some incredible success under Mourinho though and would surely be excited at the prospect of linking up with his former boss.

However, there is no denying that he is past his best and it does strike as a rather underwhelming move for Mourinho to go for.

You can't help but think that he would only come into bulk up the squad rather than slot straight into the first team.

Rumours that it could be part of a swap deal for Christian Eriksen are also said to be wide of the mark, with Dane's preferred destination believed to be La Liga.

Whether he plays or not, Mourinho will certainly welcome Matic back with open arms having had to make do without him for over a year now.

We're just finding it a little hard to understand the reasoning behind the approach for an out of favour, past his best 'midfield general'.

Still, Jose is the Special One for a reason, and perhaps, just perhaps, he knows better.
