The Manchester derby takes place on Saturday evening with both sides needing three points.

Manchester City were the favourites to win the Premier League again this season before a ball had even been kicked.

But they have faltered thus far and are already 11 points behind Liverpool.

Things have gone even worse for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United.

United have won just five of their opening 15 games.

They are 11 points further back from their city rivals and are a mammoth 22 points behind Liverpool.

Ahead of Saturday's big game, the Mirror have taken a look at the amount of money both sides spend on player wages.

And it makes for interesting reading...

Given the amount both clubs are spending on player wages, it's interesting that City are spending just £1,500-per-week more than what United are.

The first thing that stands out is Ederson's wage.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is one of the best goalkeepers in the world but three Manchester goalkeepers earn more than him.

He's arguably better than De Gea, but the Spaniard is earning almost 6x more than what Ederson is. Crazy.

Aymeric Laporte is also on a fairly low wage. The Frenchman was one of the best defenders in the Premier League prior to his injury.

But he's earning just £120,000-per-week. That's £70,000 less than Harry Maguire and £30,000 less than Luke Shaw.

That figure is also the same figure as what United are paying Ashley Young.

Kevin De Bruyne is Man City's highest earning player and rightly so. He earns £60,000 more than Pogba at United.

Juan Mata is now a bit-part player but earns more than what Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho earn at Man City.

It's also criminal that United are paying £120,000-per-week to Fred and Nemanja Matic.

They are paying just £10,000 to Scott McTominay though, which is great value for money. A big pay day seems on the horizon for the Scotsman.

Both clubs are also paying big money to their attackers.

Raheem Sterling earns the most, picking up £300,000-per-week.

That's £50,000-per-week than Anthony Martial. He hasn't paid well enough to be earning £250,000-per-week.

He actually earns almost 3x more than what Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus earn at Man City, which is crazy.

It's fair to say that Man City are getting more value for money out of there players than Man United.
