Many people have become addicted to Football Manager and tennis star Andy Murray is among them.

The two-time Wimbledon champion, currently ranked 126 in the world, spoke about his addiction to the popular simulation game with BBC Sport.

Anyone who’s played Football Manager before knows the appeal of the game. The desire to play just one more game can quickly turn into five.

And then there are the late night sessions. It’s not uncommon to hear of people staying up until the early hours in pursuit of a league title with a lowly side from Turkey.

Murray knows all about it. Indeed, the Scot revealed he would stay up until 3am playing it - before starting tennis training at 8am.

As a professional athlete, it quickly dawned on the 32-year-old that he needed to cut back.

“I played a lot of Football Manager growing up - it killed a lot of time on the road - but it also became a bit of an issue when I was staying up late to play it," Murray told BBC Sport.

"I had to cut back a few years ago. When I was in Spain, myself and a friend would have two teams each - we were staying up until 3am, and we would start training at 8am, so I had to stop playing it.”

Murray, an Arsenal fan, continued by admitting that he could consider moving into football coaching one day.

"As far as football coaching goes, I have been asked if there were any other jobs I would be interested in doing, and I would like to do something in sport.

"Football is something that has always interested me and, it would be a fun thing to try.

"A lot of people think they could do a good job, and that they know what teams should be doing, but there is a lot more to it than that."

Given the amount of hours he spent playing Football Manager, he may know a thing or two.

Murray could take inspiration from Andrej Pavlović, who was offered a job at Serbian club FC Bežanija after sending them a list of his achievements on Football Manager.

Pavlović had an immediate impact upon his arrival, helping FC Bežanija climb from 13th to sixth in the table.
